Ulster Hockey U16 & U18 girls continued their winning starts to the Interpros on Sunday.
The U16s recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Munster before their seniors beat the same opposition 8-1 in Dublin.
The younger Ulster side got off to a flying start when they took the lead with just six minutes played through Evie Girvan. The forward picked up the ball just inside the opposition’s 25 before driving into the circle and picking out the far corner with a low reversed strike.
Ulster continued to create chances throughout the fixture with another great opportunity coming with just 23 minutes on the clock.
Having worked the ball to the byline, an Ulster forward fired a pass across the face of the goal but none of her teammates were there to divert the ball goal-bound.
In the third quarter, the visiting defence was put under considerable pressure as the hosts has their best period of play in the fixture.
However, their momentum was brought to a halt when Lara Wilson got a second goal to double the Ulster lead. Wilson was unmarked in the circle before getting an early shot off. Despite the goalkeeper getting a touch on the effort the ball managed to cross the line to make it 2-0.
With eight minutes left to play Nieve Caldwell performed the game’s standout moment when she cut in from the right wing before beating three Munster defenders and picking out the far top corner with a reverse strike to make it 3-0.
Meanwhile, the U18s also got off to a quick start when Emily Adamson and Katie Herron made it 2-0 with just 11 minutes on the clock.
The quick start set the tone for the fixture, with the visiting side looking strong throughout and it didn’t take long before they extended their lead.
With 22 minutes played it was 3-0 when Kia McCartney added to the scoring. However, the three-goal advantage only lasted four minutes as a Munster crash ball into the circle was deflected goalward by an attacker to score their only goal of the game.
From there the young Ulster side took full control of the fixture when McCartney added her second of the game and Joni Cunningham added a further two goals to make it 6-1 to the visitors.
Meanwhile, the final quarter saw Annie Cunningham and Molly Young round off the scoring as the U18s made it four wins from as many games for our girls sides in the Interpros.
