Ulster Hockey will be running a series of Coach Education workshops and courses across the province in coming months, to help develop your skills as a Hockey coach.

 

Coaching Workshop for Youth Coaches – “Sweating, smiling and slightly better”

This workshop is aimed at Youth Hockey coaches and will be delivered by Mick McKinnon. Mick has had unprecedented success in developing players and teams at Armagh and Railway Union women (winning a number of national ISC and IHL titles) whilst also successfully coaching the U18 women’s Ireland team. Mick has also previously been involved with Irish Senior Men coaching team.

The course will cover:
How to learn through game play
How to ensure that the work to rest ratio in your sessions increases
How to use different types of training sessions
How to tailor these to suit your desire outcome

Coaching Goalkeepers Workshop

This course will help coaches to promote the coaching of good basic techniques to goalkeepers and to develop coaches’ knowledge and understanding of modern goalkeeping skills.

Content of Course will include:
Equipment
Saves directed AT body (Low and High)
Saves directed OUTSIDE the body (Low, Medium and High)
Kicking / Clearing (low shots) / Mobility
Diving
Block slides

Qualifications

Fundamentals of Coaching Hockey Course for Volunteers

This course is designed to be an introduction to hockey coaching for volunteers and parents. Whilst still paying heed to the skills required to be taught to beginners the course will also look at the delivery and organisation of a coaching session. The course specifically looks at the coaching needs of those with a limited background in hockey who may also require additional coaching skills to impart their knowledge.

The Fundamentals course is the first course in the hockey coaching pathway and is one of the requirements for candidates wishing to progress to Level 1 and onwards.

Level One Coaching Course

The Hockey Ireland Level 1 Coaching Course is the second step on the Hockey Ireland Coaching Pathway. Whilst the Hockey Ireland’s Fundamentals Coaching Course qualifies coaches as Assistant Coaches, the Level 1 is designed for people looking to lead group sessions. The course is delivered on the basis that attendees are coaching a range of age groups, from young children to adults.
