Ulster Hockey U18 representative player Ella Armstrong (who also plays for Pegasus 1s and Methody 1st XI) is hoping that the Ulster hockey community will get behind her and lend support for her run on 2nd May in the Belfast Half Marathon in aid of NI Children’s Hospice, Ulster Hockey’s charity partner.
Commenting on her decision to do this run, Ella said “The last few months of lockdown have been tough not being able to get out on the hockey pitch so I have tried not to dwell on what I am missing but get things into perspective and focus on the needs of others. It’s easy to forget that throughout the last year there have been amazing local charities like NI Children’s Hospice carrying on, despite the pandemic, caring for children with life limiting conditions and their families. I want to do my bit to acknowledge their awesome work.
Training for the run has been challenging as I don’t think of myself as a long distance athlete but I guess it will be good preparation for the next hockey season. However, it’s really helped me having my older brother and sister around to run with me these last few weeks – let’s just say that there’s been a good sibling rivalry and a competitive edge! ”
