Hockey Inclusion Programme hitting off!

Northern Ireland Civil Service Hockey Club is preparing to launch its 3rd annual coaching programme for young people with learning disabilities and/or learning difficulties in an effort to increase participation in hockey by making our sport more attractive to and accessible for children who do not feel comfortable or able to join mainstream sessions.

Sessions are delivered according to individuals’ abilities and all participants are able to develop their own skills and participate in group matches. Playing hockey enables participants to improve their individual fitness levels from warm up (introduction to exercise) through training drills (strengthening) to playing matches (fitness) while gaining new skills.

Participants are provided with opportunities to play and compete in various team games, relays and matches in a fun environment. They learn to respect each other, involve others and communicate and to win/lose together. This programme offers the club the opportunity to share our sport and the fantastic facilities we have at Playball with our local community.

Participant numbers doubled from the first to second year of this programme and feedback has been extremely positive. We would love to build on this success by increasing attendance numbers.
