Congratulations to Sullivan Upper School, Holywood and Friends’ School, Lisburn on reaching the 100th Burney Cup Final following the semi-finals at Shaws Bridge on Wednesday 11th March.

Sullivan Upper School, Holywood defeated Royal Belfast Academical Institution (RBAI) 5-1 with Sullivan Scorers: Harry Yarr, Patrick Rose x2, Jack Crossan & Daniel Girvin; and RBAI Scorer: Dan Smith.

Friends’ School Lisburn also won 5-1 against Wallace High School in the local derby with Friends Scorers: Connor Quinn x2, Ollie Kidd x2 & Matthew Aughey; and Wallace Scorer: Ben Clarke.

Taking into consideration the current escalation of the Coronavirus situation in Northern Ireland and also an appetite expressed by the schools to play sooner than 2 April; Ulster Hockey has successfully secured the pitch at Stormont on 25th March. It is now proposed to move the John Minnis 100th Burney Cup Final and Plate Final forwards to this date subject to further change in the Coronavirus situation.

Currently advice and guidance being provided to sports governing bodies is that it is not necessary to cancel or postpone events. As member safety is paramount, Ulster Hockey will continue to monitor the situation and follow and guidance provided.
