In a successful tournament at Playball, Lisnagarvey were crowned Champions of the Vets Blitz as they beat Ballyclare 3-0 in the final.

The tournament saw a great turnout and featured 17 teams competing across four groups, all of which were closely contested.

There was no shortage of entertaining hockey throughout the groups as the goals racked up throughout the day. However, come the end of the round it was Ballyclare, Omagh, Portadown and Lisnagarvey who progressed to the knockout stages as group winners.

The first semi-final saw Group 1 winners Ballyclare take on the top side from Group 2 Omagh. In a tense game both sides looked capable of coming out on top but ultimately it was Ballyclare who emerged victorious in a 2-1 win.

The other tie of the round saw the winners of Groups 3 and 4 go head-to-head as Portadown and Lisnagarvey competed for the second place in the afternoons final.

Again it proved to be a closely fought game with both sides on the scoresheet, but Garvey proved too strong for their opponents and were 3-1 victors and would meet Ballyclare in the final.

Garvey started the game on top and took an early 2-0 lead but despite their best efforts Ballyclare couldn’t find a route back into the game.

There was still time for one more goal from the leaders for the game to finish 3-0 with Lisnagarvey crowned Champions of the Vets Blitz.

Ulster Hockey would like to thank all the teams who travelled to take part in the competition and congratulate today’s winners on their success.
