After a COVID related delay, Sunday 8th May 2022 sees the welcome return of the senior hockey cup semi-finals. All four semi-finals are taking place on Super Sunday, 8th May at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club. The finals will be held on Saturday 14th May at Stormont.

Millar McCall Wylie Kirk Cup

Holders Lisnagarvey have had a remarkable season having already win the EY Hockey League, EY Champions Trophy and Irish Senior Cup. They will be looking to complete a clean sweep of silverware by adding the Kirk Cup. Standing in the way of their progress to the final will be Cookstown, who narrowly missed out on the Ulster Premier League on the final day of the season but have had a successful season having secured promotion to the EYHL1 for 2022/23 season.

In the other semi-final, Banbridge will be hoping to go one better than the last Kirk Cup final in 2019 where they were beaten finalists. They will play Annadale in what is expected to be a closely contested match, both teams having maintained their places in the EYHL1 finishing 3rd and 7th respectively.

We would like to thank Millar McCall Wylie for their ongoing support of the Kirk Cup, the oldest Provincial hockey trophy in Ireland.

Denman Ulster Shield

2022 sees the long awaited return of one of the oldest ladies hockey tournaments in the world. First contested in 1896, this years event represents the 125th Anniversary Ulster Shield. In the first semi final Banbridge will play Ballymoney. Led by Irish Captain Katie Mullan, Ballymoney will be looking for success in the Ulster Shield having narrowly missed out on the Premier League finishing 2nd place behind Ards. Banbridge are sure to provide stern opposition having finished in 5th place in the Premier League.

In the second semi-final, Ladies EYHL side Pegasus will face Lurgan Ladies. Pegasus will be favourites and will be looking to round off a successful season having been the first Irish team to participate in the European Hockey League. Lurgan will be keen to conclude their season with an upset.
