Club 1896: Stephen Watson shares tales of his sports broadcast career

Ulster Hockey brought sport and business together with our latest Club 1896 event at the Glagorm Collection’s Rabbit Hotel in Templepatrick.

The business breakfast event featured special guest speaker, established sports journalist Stephen Watson and long-term Ulster Hockey partner, John Minnis of John Minnis Estate Agents.

Hosted by U105’s Denise Watson, the networking event saw Watson share stories from his illustrious career in sport, which has seen him cover many of the world’s biggest sporting events from World Cups to the Olympics and, of course, Rory McIlroy completing the golfing grand slam earlier this year at Augusta.

The broadcast journalist also opened up on his previous health struggles, sharing the story of receiving a kidney transplant from his dad before having to have a similar surgery almost 30 years later.

Speaking alongside Watson, John Minnis shared his insight into the business world as his company celebrates 20 years in operation. The real estate entrepreneur has been a long-term supporter of Ulster Hockey, sponsoring the Burney Cup and also spoke of his passion for giving back to his local community through sponsorship.

In lieu of an appearance fee for the event, Stephen Watson, a recipient of two kidney transplants, has asked that Ulster Hockey make a donation to the Children’s Kidney Fund NI, a worthy cause.

If you too would like to donate, you can do so at https://childrenskidneyfundni.org/
