Finals Week got off to a flying start at Playball, Stormont this afternoon with four school sides lifting silverware.
Belfast Royal Academy, Larne Grammar School, Methodist College Belfast and Kilkeel High School all tasted success with narrow wins in the capital.
BRA got the day off to a quick start as they scored just two minutes into their clash with Ballymena Academy with Alex Snoddy claiming the goal.
For much of the game it looked as though it was going to be the difference between the two sides before Ballymena Academy’s Lucy McAllister equalised from penalty corner to send the sides into the final break level.
However, two strikes in ten minutes from Faith Hillis swung the game in favour of Belfast Royal Academy as they ended the tightly contested final as 3-1 winners.
Larne Grammar also sealed cup success as they beat Grosvenor Grammar School in the Senior Shield Final.
Another tightly contested fixture, there was nothing to seperate the two sides for much of the game as it took until the 39th minute of the tie for the opening goal of the game.
Larne’s Anna McRoberts the goalscorer, breaking the deadlock from open play with time running out in the third quarter.
The effort proved to be the only strike of the game, with Grosvenor unable to find an equaliser as Larne Grammar School were crowned champions.
Meanwhile, on the sand pitch there were wins for both Methodist College Belfast and Kilkeel High School.
Firstly, the Belfast school were crowned champions of the Gibson cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Rainey Endowed thanks to a goal late in the third quarter.
Later in the afternoon Kilkeel HS claimed the U14 High School Cup for a second consecutive season as they edged past Markethill High School, winning 2-1.
