MPL: Weekend Preview

There are three games in the Men’s Premier League this weekend, the first of which sees Bangor host North Down in a huge game at the bottom of the division.

Bottom of the league, North Down come into the tie winless this season and with just one point from their 11 league games.

Eight points behind their hosts, another loss this weekend would almost certainly condemn the side to at least a relegation playoff this season – a game which they survived last campaign.

Menahile a win for Bangor could all but confirm their status in the division for another year.

The Anderson Cup champions sit firmly in eighth and a win would see them move 11 points clear of the automatic relegation place.

Elsewhere, Kilkeel will be looking to take advantage of that result when they host Portadown.

The side come into the weekend in ninth place and could close the gap to Bangor to just two points if the results go in their favour.

However, having lost their last two league outings by an aggregate score of 15-1, the side will be looking for an upturn in form.

Portadown also come into the weekend off the back of a defeat, having lost 1-0 to CI Annadale midweek.

Still in EYHL2 contention, a win could see the side climb as high as third in the division.

At the Glade, second place Mossley host EYHL2 chasing Belfast Harlequins.

Fresh off the back of beating Kilkeel 8-1, the hosts come into the tie in fine form. Having won four of their last six league games, the side sit comfortably in the EYHL2 places in their first season back in the division.

Meanwhile, top scorer Neal Glassey has netted an outstanding 21 league goals this campaign including eight in his last three league outings.

Opponents Belfast Harlequins sit X points outside the EYHL2 places and they too have hit a run of form in recent weeks.

Having lost just one of their last six league games, they sit in X in the divison and a win this weekend could see the side climb as high as X.
