The Ulster Hockey Coaching and Officiating Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of hockey coaches and officials during the 2004-2025 Season and the role they play in encouraging participation, development and excellence.
There are five award categories, and this document provides further information on each category, together with key evidence the judging panel will look for when making decisions.

Children’s Coach of the Year
This award recognises the outstanding contribution of a children’s coach to the development of young people’s skills, understanding, enjoyment, and lifestyle through sport.
Young Coach of the Year
This award recognises the important work carried out by an up-and-coming coach through his or her coaching achievements to date and the impact they have made on the people they coach.
Club Performance Coach of the Year
This award recognises the achievements of a coach working to develop emerging and talented performers from within club hockey.
Young Umpire of the Year
This award recognises the important role carried out by an up-and-coming young umpire through his or her commitment to hockey.
Club Umpire of the Year
This award recognises the outstanding contribution and commitment of a non-panel umpire who is regularly officiating clubs matches.
Key Points to Consider
- Nominations should include evidence to support the impact of the coach or official in the category specified. This evidence should be supported with facts and figures where possible.
- All nominated coaches and umpires must hold an appropriate Ulster Hockey/ Hockey Ireland coaching qualification.
- All nominated coaches or umpires should have made a significant impact during the 2024-2025 season.
- The judging panel can only take into account information supplied on the nomination form.
