SPORTING CHANCE WORKSHOPS – ADDICATION, LIFESTYLE & MENTAL HEALTH

Sporting Chance is a charity set up with the aim of providing mental health support services to professional sportspeople.

They are offering a custom workshop tailored to sports clubs that encourages participants to actively engage in conversations about their own mental health and explore how different lifestyle factors can affect their mental health. Some of these factors include substance misuse, compulsive behaviours and addiction, specifically relating to alcohol, gambling and drugs.
These workshops are fully funded by Sport NI and are at no additional cost to clubs. They last around an hour and are facilitated by Oisin McConville, winner of six All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championships, who uses his own experience of gambling addiction to engage and educate athletes to talk about and become aware of their own mental health and some of the behaviours that could pose a risk to this.
