Ulster Hockey is delighted to invite you to join our celebrations as the 2021/22 season marks the 125th Anniversary of hockey in Ulster.  2021 and 2022 sees a number of milestones marking 125 years of Hockey in Ulster.

  • The Ulster Branch of the Irish Hockey Association was formed in December 1896 with Antrim, Cliftonville and North Down amongst the founding members.
  • The exact date of the formation of the Ulster Women’s Hockey Union remains unknown, the first evidence of organised ladies hockey recorded is the Ulster Shield, which was first contested in 1896 making it of the oldest competitions in the world.
  • Following on from the formation of the Associations, at a special general meeting on 15 October 1897 at the Royal Avenue Hotel, Belfast, members of the association agreed to form the Ulster Senior League.
  • The 1897–98 season also the introduction of the association’s senior men’s cup competition, the Kirk Cup.

From Lord Craigavon, James Craig (Northern Ireland’s first Prime Minister and stalwart of South Antrim Hockey Club), through Dr Stephen Martin and Jimmy Kirkwood (2 of Northern Ireland’s 3 Olympic Gold medallists) to modern day heros such as Shirley McCay (Ireland’s most capped sports woman) and Katie Mullan (current Ireland ladies captain), Ulster Hockey has a rich and colourful history worth celebrating.

We will be joined by special guests for after dinner entertainment.

Tickets cost £50 or £500 for a table of 10 and the latest date for purchase is 31st December 2021
