Royal School Armagh and Portadown College contest the Belfast Telegraph Girls Senior Cup Final this evening at Playball, Stormont.
Both sides progressed to the finale with victories in last Wednesday’s Semi-Finals against Rainey Endowed and Banbridge Academy.
Two goals from Daisy Nicholson and Hannah Redmond helped Royal School Armagh progress against Rainey Endowed before Martha Speers and Evie Thompson got on the scoresheet to help Portadown College surpass Banbridge Academy.
This evening’s match has become a common fixture in the school’s calendar with the two sides having met in last season’s final as well as the last two Stevenson Cup deciders with Royal School Armagh narrowly winning on each occasion.
Their most recent meeting came in the 2024 Stevenson Cup Final back in December when a Scarlett Taylor penalty stroke proved to be the difference between the two sides as they won the competition for a third season in a row.
That win now has Greg Thompson’s side on course for a historic ‘treble double’ as they could become the first ever team to win both the two main schoolgirl competitions three years in a row.
Speaking on the potentially historic achievement, the Royal School Armagh Coach said;
“It will be our fourth final in a row, which is a massive achievement for the girls.
We are now looking to go one step more and add the cup to what has been a great season already.
We are going for the ‘triple-double’ or whatever you want to call it and we have a great group of girls here who have already tasted success and they want more of it and are hungry to keep working for it.”
Meanwhile, Portadown College are looking to end a nearly 30-year drought and get their hands on the trophy for the first time since 1996 when they beat Foyle and Londonderry College 1-0.
The game is scheduled to get underway at 7pm and all spectators should be aware of a gate fee upon entry of £3 for children and £6 for adults.
