Grosvenor Grammar School, Campbell College Belfast and Bangor Grammar School all tasted success as they became the latest sides to lift silverware at Boys’ Finals Week.
Grosvenor Grammar School started the day’s action with a 3-0 win over Kilkeel High School in the Burney Plate Final.
The games first goal came right at the end of the first quarter when the eventual champions were awarded a penalty corner. Having seen two efforts saved, Louis Watters converted for his side on the third attempt to send his side into the break 1-0 ahead.
It remained just one goal between the two sides until the beginning of the third quarter when Grosvenor strengthened their lead with two goals in two minutes.
First it was Thomas Barr who scored to extend the lead to 2-0 before his side won a penalty corner immediately from the restart. It was from there that Adam Peel added a third and put the result beyond doubt.
In the second game of the afternoon, Campbell College were crowned champions of the Bannister Plate.
In a tight game at Havelock Park it took until the third quarter for the deadlock to finally be broken.
It came with just six minutes remaining in the period when the Belfast school broke down the right before the ball made its way to Reuben Bull who fired his side into the lead.
Despite late pressure from Banbridge Academy, Bull’s strike proved to be the only goal in the game as they ran out 1-0 victors
In the final game, Bangor Grammar School were crowned Ferris Cup champions with a 3-0 win over Killicomaine JH.
It took just two minutes for Bangor to take the lead as Felix McMillan fired in a brilliant reverse effort from the penalty spot.
Before the end of the quarter, the side doubled their advantage as Ben McGilton crossed into the circle before picking out the bottom corner with another reverse effort.
Just before the half-time break Bangor added a third as Dale Yarr extended their lead and put his side 3-0 up as it eventually finished.
