Four Sides win Stevenson Silverware

Royal School Armagh were crowned Stevenson Cup champions for the fourth year in a row as they beat Banbridge Academy 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

Strikes from Joni Cunningham and Mia Taylor sailed the win for the side who have now qualified for the Kate Russell All-Ireland Championships.

After a strong start to the tie, the reigning champions took the lead with just 12 minutes played.

Having won their first penalty corner of the tie, a straight strike from captain Joni Cunningham found the bottom corner to fire her side 1-0 ahead.

In the second quarter, they doubled their advantage right on the blow for half-time.

Having won another corner, Cunningham slipped right to Mia Taylor, whose deflected effort beat the goalkeeper at the near post.

With no Banbridge response in the second half, Royal School Armagh held on to their 2-0 and were crowned champions of the competition once more.

Elsewhere, Lurgan College sealed a 3-1 win over Cookstown High School to be crowned Stevenson Bowl champions.

Annabelle Davoust-McCann had given Lurgan an early lead when she struck with just two minutes on the clock, however, her side were soon pegged back when Ellie Costelloe drew Cookstown level.

In a tight affair, it remained 1-1 until the final quarter when two late goals sealed the win for Lurgan College.

Firstly Alex Kerr led the counter attack, breaking away from two Cookstown defenders before firing her side into a 2-1 lead.

Then, with just four minutes remaining Emma Latimer fired in a third goal and sealed a 3-1 win for her side.

In the U14 Cup, Banbridge Academy came from behind to beat Methodist College Belfast.

After a goalless first quarter, the deadlock was finally broken ten minutes into the second.

Having worked the ball down the left wing, the ball fell for Sophie Wylie at the penalty spot, who fired in to give Methodist College Belfast a 1-0 lead.

However, in the second half, two goals from Lila Nicholson and Anna Topping turned the game around as Banbridge sealed a 2-1 win to be crowned the U14 champions.

In the U14 Bowl, Cookstown High School were crowned champions with a shootout victory over Limavady Grammar School

It was Limavady who got off to a flying start, taking the lead with just two minutes on the clock.

The side worked it well down the right wing before a ball played across the goalmouth was tapped in by Emily Kane at the back post.

Limavady remained on top for much of the tie, but it was Cookstown who drew level in the dying stages of the third quarter at Genevieve Philips-Booth struck from a penalty corner on the umpire’s whistle, sending the sides into the final period level.

With neither side able to find a winning goal, they went to a shootout where it was Cookstown who came out on top with a 2-1 win.
