LWM Prem: Matchday 2 Preview

In the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League, title favourites Ards travel to Deramore Park to take on challengers Belfast Harlequins.

The 2021/22 champions got their season off to a flying start with three goals from Alana Doyle, Alyssa Boyd and Pippa Best securing a 3-0 victory over Lurgan last Friday night.

However, they face top opposition once more as they take on a Belfast Harlequins side who came third in the division last season and have suffered just one defeat in their last seven league games.

The Belfast club also got their season off to a winning start, beating Banbridge 2-0 at Havelock Park thanks to goals from Sophie Hunter and Alyssa Jebb.

In the second game of the weekend, top meets bottom as Lisnagarvey travel to face Lurgan.

It was contrasting starts for both these sides last weekend, with Lisnagarvey sealing a comfortable 4-1 win over Ballymoney, whilst Lurgan suffered their aforementioned defeat to Ards.

The visitors come into this weekend’s clash hoping Beth Ravey can replicate her start to the season with the forward having netted twice in last week’s win.

Meanwhile, Andy Brown’s side will take confidence into this weekend’s game, having beaten Saturday’s opponents home and away last season.

Elsewhere, newly promoted Larne could make it back-to-back wins when they host Armagh in their first home game in the division.

The Senior One champions got their maiden season in the league off to a flying start, winning 2-0 with goals from Selina Lewis and Alex Lyle, whilst goalkeeper Trish Neill also saved a last-minute penalty stroke.

Looking to kickstart their season, Armagh will be hoping they can rectify last weekend’s result against Mossley, when a Daisy Nicholson strike wasn’t enough to get anything from the game, losing 2-1.

At The Glade, Mossley are looking to build on a positive result on matchday one when they host Ballymoney.

Davy Menaul’s sides win over Armagh was their first win in four league games going back to last season and now face a side who they had a strong record last campaign.

Winning both games against Ballymoney, it was two goals from Reah Little and Emma Downey that secured a 2-1 win in the last meeting between these clubs.

The final game of the weekend sees Ballymoney travel to face Omagh, with both sides looking to bounce back from opening day defeats.
