LWM Prem: Wins for Lurgan, Larne and Lisnagarvey

Larne continued their strong start to life in the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League as they beat Ballymoney 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

In a tight affair at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, it remained 0-0 until the third quarter when Evie Lavery was left unmarked at the back post before giving her side the lead.

Just five minutes later, Abbie Lavery doubled her side’s lead with her first goal of the season as she too was left with a tap-in having been left unmarked at the back post.

Lucy McCartney’s 56th-minute penalty corner got a goal back for the hosts, but they were unable to find an equaliser as it finished 2-1 to Larne.

The win sees Larne climb to fourth in the league, whilst Ballymoney occupy the foot of the table.

Elsewhere, Lurgan made it back-to-back wins as they beat Belfast Harlequins 3-2.

Midway through the first quarter, it was Harlequins who broke the deadlock with Katie Larmour scoring her first goal of the season from a penalty corner.

In the second quarter, Lurgan found their equaliser when a ball into the circle found Sarah Sagrent, who scored for the second weekend running, before a reverse strike from Lydia McNeill gave her side the lead.

Approaching the closing stages, Lurgan struck once more through Ellie Odgers before Claire Whiteside deflected in from a penalty corner for a Harlequins consolation effort.

The final game on Saturday saw Lisnagarvey climb to third in the division as they beat Mossley at Comber Road.

Bonnie Connor-Boyd got the visitors off to a quick start when she struck in the first quarter before three goals from the hosts completed the comeback.

Beth McFerran’s deflected strike found the top corner before goals from Katherine Boyd and Jess Moore sealed the three points for their side.

The win makes it two victories from three games this season as the side and they are now one of four teams with six points this campaign.

On Friday night, Armagh left it late to rescue a point at home to Banbridge.

The visitors broke the deadlock five minutes into the second quarter when Steph Ardis drove along the byline before finding Paula Atkinson at the back post, who was left with an open goal.

Still leading in the closing stages of the game, Banbridge conceded a late penalty corner, giving their hosts a chance to equalise.

After the initial shot from the top of the circle was blocked, Rhianna Gillespie was quickest to react to the loose ball and fired in a late equaliser for her side.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, two goals from Ali Carson and Pippa Best helped Ards to a 2-0 win over Omagh.
