Last night saw four midweek games in the Men’s and Legacy Wealth Management Premier League, with Mossley (ladies), Queen’s University and Belfast Harlequins (men) all picking up wins.
Legacy Wealth Management Premier League:
Mossley continued their EYHL2 charge as they earned an impressive 3-1 win over Lisnagarvey last night.
The deadlock was broken midway through the second quarter when Leah Callaghan picked up the ball on the right wing before driving across the top of the circle and firing in for her second goal of the season.
The visitors found themselves level at the start of the second half when Beth Ravey struck from a penalty corner, deflecting in from just in front of the goalkeeper.
However, two goals in quick succession from the in-form Kate Spillane saw Davy Menaul’s side storm to a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.
With no Garvey response, their hosts held out for all three points and move to within two points of the EYHL2 places with two games in hand.
Meanwhile, Ballymoney earned a hard-fought draw at home to Belfast Harlequins.
Three goals from Nikki Parke, Katie Burns and Anna Wright helped earn the point and keeps the side within touching distance of eighth-place Armagh.
The side are now just two points from saftey and three ahead of bottom of the league Omagh.
Men’s Premier League:
Queen’s University continued their form at the top of the division with a 7-0 win over Kilkeel last night.
A Jack Mulholland hat-trick proved to be the pick of the action for the students, whilst JJ Holley (2), Josh Kamalarajah and Sam McMillan all got on the scoresheet to round off the scoring.
The win sees the side move 11 points clear at the top of the league, having played a game more than second-place South Antirm, with the sides set to meet next week.
The evening’s other game saw Belfast Harlequins seal an away win as they beat North Down 3-0 in Comber.
Cameron Ruttle opened the scoring in the first quarter with his fifth goal of the season before Pierce Connolly found Ewan Hutchinson who doubled the sides lead in the second period.
In the third quarter, Michael Patterson rounded off the win with a third goal from a penalty corner to give his side a 3-0 lead and all three points.
The win sees the side overtake CI Annadale in the table and move to within three points of the EYHL2 places.
