Queen’s University overcame Instonians at Shaw’s Bridge and extended their unbeaten run in the league to ten games on Saturday.
It was the hosts who opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Jacob McIlhatton won his sides first penalty corner of the game.
Ben Palmer saw his initial effort saved on the line, before converting at the second attempt following a re-award.
Midway through the second quarter, the students were level when they won a penalty corner of their own and Ben Law picked out the side netting.
The visitors then took the lead just a minute into the second half when a quickly taken JJ Holley free saw the ball flashed across the face of goal for Mark Barlow to score into an empty net
With 60 minutes gone, Law got his second of the afternoon, finding the roof of the net from a second penalty corner and sealing all three points for his side.
Portadown continued their strong start to the season as they beat Kilkeel 4-2 at Edenvilla.
The division’s top scorer, Ryan Bennett, opened the scoring with ten minutes on the clock when he struck from a penalty corner to net his eighth goal of the season.
Just five minutes later, James McQuitty doubled his sides lead and gave them a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
However, in the third period, Kilkeel scored two quickfire goals of their own to draw level with David Rae and Jordan McCartan both striking from penalty corners.
Then, with just ten minutes remaining in the clash, Jamie Wright restored the Portadown lead before Luke Bell confirmed a 4-2 win in the dying stages.
At Friends’ School Lisburn, CI Annadale got their first win of the season as they won away to South Antrim.
After a goalless first quarter, two goals from Adam Duffield and Matthew Willis gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half time.
In the second half Max Taylor scored his third goal of the season, but it was soon cancelled out by a Spencer Pinion penalty corner as they were condemned to a 3-1 defeat.
Elsewhere, Mossley continued their 100% start to the season as they came from behind to beat Belfast Harlequins 6-3 at Deramore Park.
Matthew Gray scored his first goal since the opening weekend of the season to give his side a 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
However, a hat-trick from Simon Todd and goals from Neal Glassey, Jason Roe and Rhys Wilson saw the visitors seal a third consecutive win to move into second in the division.
There were consolation strikes from Owen Creighton and Peter Bailey, but the hosts were ultimately unable to get anything from the game as they remain fifth.
The final game of the weekend saw Bangor seal an emphatic win over North Down, winning 7-2.
Goals from Scott McGilton (2), Chris Campbell, Ryan Lyall, Paddy Brown, Dave McClune and Adam Tweed sealed the win and sees the side more to four points this season.
Meanwhile, despite two goals from Josh Gilmore and Jonny Linter, North Down were dealt their fourth defeat of the season and sit bottom of the division.
