Women’s Weekend Roundup

Pegasus kept their chances of advancing from the Denman Shield group stages alive as they beat Lurgan 1-0 on Saturday evening.

A goal from Beth Kennedy proved to be the difference between the sides and sees Pegasus move level with Queen’s University in the group.

Beth Kennedy’s strike proved to be the difference between the two sides as she was left with an open goal before tapping in on her reverse.

The group will now head to the final game when Lurgan take on Queen’s University with all three sides still in with a chance of progressing to the knockouts.

At Havelock Park, Ulster Elks came from behind to Banbridge 3-1 in Pool A.

Paula Atkinson had given the hosts the lead when she capitalised on a turnover in midfield before driving into the Elks circle and rounding Gemma Ferguson to make it 1-0.

Their EYHL2 opponents soon drew level as they were awarded a penalty stroke following a foot on the line from a penalty corner with Gabi Scott converting from the spot.

In the final quarter, the visitors took the lead for the first time in the tie Rachel Houston fired in from the top of the circle before they doubled their advantage five minutes from time.

Joel Cathcart’s side worked the ball to the baseline before a ball across the goal mouth found Leah McGuire who tapped in to wrap up the victory for her side.

The final game in the Denman Shield saw Portadown secure a narrow win away to Omagh.

A Lara Wilson strike from open play and a Serena Campuzano penalty stroke helped seal the win despite a consolation strike from Omagh’s Sophie Egerton.

The win leaves Portadown top of the group with three points as they prepare to face Lisnagarvey this coming Wednesday.

In the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League, Mossley won for the fifth time in eight games as they beat Larne 1-0

In a tight game at Larne Grammar School, it looked as though the sides were going to share the points as they headed into the final quarter goalless.

However, a late goal from Bonnie Connor-Boyd saw Mossley take all three points as her reverse strike from the top of the circle picked out the bottom corner and sealed a 1-0 win for her side.

The win sees Mossley remain fifth in the division, whilst Larne sit seventh, having lost seven league games in a row.

On Friday night, Lisnagarvey returned to winning ways as they beat Armagh 3-1 at Comber Road.

Three goals from Beth McFerran, Scarlett Swann and Jessica Moore sealed the win for Ryan McMaster’s side and saw them bounce back from their recent defeat to league leaders Ards.

Following their win, they climb back into third and into the EYHL2 qualification places, whilst a fifth defeat in eight league games sees Armagh remain eighth.
