Women’s Weekend Roundup

Mossley ensured their Denman Shield fate remains in their own hands as they held EYHL side Ulster Elks to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon.

A win over Banbridge in their final group game could see the side progress to the knockout stages as group winners with a two-goal winning margin enough to guarantee their place in the knockouts.

Reah Little got her first goal of the afternoon midway through the first quarter when she was left unmarked at the back post before deflecting in to make it 1-0.

Ulster Elks soon drew level from a penalty corner of their own when a well-worked routine saw Isla Allen deflect in.

However, Mossley then restored their lead, hitting their visitors on the counter attack before Little struck with her second of the afternoon

Her side couldn’t hold out for all three points as Rachel Houston found Robyn Chambers in the circle before she equalised for Joel Cathcart’s side.

With neither side able to find a winner, they were forced to share the spoils with Elks ending the day top of the group with four points.

In the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League, Banbridge returned to winning ways as they beat Omagh 2-1.

After a goalless first half, youngster Katie Leslie opened the scoring the in the third quarter with her second goal of the season.

The away side soon drew level as Christine Donaghy struck with her first goal of the season, converting a rebounded effort after an initial save from the Banbridge goalkeeper.

However, it was Banbridge who got the third goal of the game to take all three points as Stef Ardis converted after a brilliant solo run from youngster Mollie Tumility.

The win sees Banbridge remain sixth in the table, four points behind fifth-place Mossley, whilst Omagh remain bottom.

Elsewhere, Armagh and Larne had the share the spoils as they drew 2-2 at Ardmore Recreational Centre.

After a strong start in the tie, Armagh took the lead with Mia Taylor scoring from an early penalty corner, but the side were soon pegged back as Larne equalised through Ellen Lyle having broken down the right flank.

Katelyn Johnston then restored the home lead from another corner to net her first goal fo the season.

However, her side couldn’t hold out for all three points as Anna McRoberts reacted quickest to score a rebounded effort and earn a point for her side.

The final game of the weekend saw Lisnagarvey held to a 0-0 draw at home with Lurgan.

Despite dropping points, the result sees a much-improved performance from their previous meeting this campaign when Lurgan won 4-1.

However, the result sees the Comber Road side miss out on the chance to close the gap to league leaders Ards to four point, but keeps Lurgan six points at bay with Andy Brown’s side sitting just outside the EYHL2 qualification places.
