LWM PREM: Wins for Ards, Garvey, Mossley and Larne

Ards continued their unbeaten start in the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League as they came from behind to beat Lurgan 2-1.

The win sees the side move seven points clear at the top of the division, having won their last nine games.

It was Lurgan who took the lead five minutes before half-time when the in-form Lydia McNeill struck for the seventh time in eight games to make it 1-0.

However, just one minute into the second half, Zara Malseed added to the two goals she got midweek against Belfast Harlequins to draw her side level.

Then, with 44 minutes played, Susie Cotter got her fourth goal of the season with what proved to be the game’s winning strike.

The defeat leaves Andy Brown’s Lurgan in fourth place in the table as their three-game winning run came to an end.

At The Glade, a Kate Spillane double helped Mossley beat visitors Armagh 2-0.

After a goalless first half, Mossley finally broke the deadlock with Spillane getting her first of the afternoon from a penalty corner.

A well-worked routine saw the forward left unmarked in the circle before she smartly deflected past the Armagh goalkeeper to give her side the lead.

In the final period, she then sealed all three points for her side as she got her second of the afternoon, as she was left free at the back post before being left with a tap-in.

Saturday’s double sees the young forward continue her fine form in goal, now having scored four goals in her last five games in the division.

The win sees her side move level on points with fourth placed Lurgan and just five points outside the EYHL2 qualification places.

Meanwhile, Armagh suffered their sixth defeat of the season as their winless run grows to seven games.

At the bottom end of the table, Larne moved six points clear of the relegation playoff place as they beat Omagh 1-0.

The only goal of the game came via a Katie Allen strike as she netted her first goal of the campaign.

The win sees Larne end a run of seven games without a win in the division, whilst Omagh remain bottom of the division.

The final game of the weekend saw Lisnagarvey make it back-to-back wins as they thrashed Ballymoney 6-1 at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

Goals from Rachel Cox, Jess Moore (2), Beth Ravey and Beth McFerran sealed the win despite a first goal of the season from Ballymoney’s Megan Kirgan.

The win sees the Hillsborough side climb to second in the division, one point ahead of third-place Belfast Harlequins, but seven points behind league leaders Ards.
