Grosvenor Grammar School and Methodist College Belfast booked their spots in the McCullough Cup Tier 2 Final with wins yesterday afternoon.
The sides will now contest the final for the third consecutive season and will meet next Wednesday at Shaw’s Bridge.
Grosvenor Grammar School 1-0 Regent House Grammar School:
After a strong opening first quarter, it was Grosvenor Grammar who were on top, winning several penalty corners but with seemingly no reward for their pressure.
Then, with just seconds remaining on the clock, Lewis Watters opened the scoring with the final play of the opening quarter to give his side the lead at the first break.
The second quarter saw Grosvenor remain on top, but with Regent House threatening on the counter attack.
However, with neither side able to find a second goal in the tie, they went into the half-time break at 1-0.
Midway through the third period, Regent House were reduced to nine men having been shown two quickfire green cards and came, but did well to weather the storm as it remained 1-0.
In the closing stage of the tie, Regent House opted to withdraw goalkeeper Rory Cunningham in search of a goal.
Having created a late flurry of chances, the side were unable to find their equalising goal and it was Grosvenor Grammar who won 1-0 to progress.
Royal & Prior 0-7 Methodist College Belfast:
The first quarter saw Methodist College Belfast on top with Pierce Connolly twice flashing the ball across the face of the goal mouth and unfortunately not able to find a teammate.
At the end of the period, it was Royal & Prior who went close, winning a penalty corner before Jack Lennon saw his strike charged down by the first runner.
In the second quarter the deadlock was finally broken.
With just four minutes remaining, it was Lucas Grimason who got the first goal of the game and gave his side the lead at half-time.
When play resumed it was Methody who quickly doubled their advantage.
Having worked the ball down the right flank the ball fell for Dylan Maxwell in the centre of the goal, who converted at the second attempt to make it 2-0.
Then, with 37 minutes played, Maxwell got his second of the afternoon from a penalty corner to extend the lead to 3-0.
As the final period got back underway, Maxwell quickly completed his hat-trick with a strike from the top of the circle before Pierce Connolly scored from the penalty spot to make it 5-0.
Two late goals from Connolly and Maxwell saw the lead extended to 7-0 and set up their final clash with Grosvenor Grammar School.
