Men’s Premier League Roundup

The race for the final EYHL2 places continued with wins for Queen’s University and Belfast Harlequins at the weekend.

Meanwhile, there was also a win for Portadown despite the side being reduced to ten men when trailing in the second half.

On Saturday afternoon, Queen’s University continued their fine form, marking a fourth game unbeaten of which they have won three as they secured a resounding 7-1 win over PSNI.

Ben Law continued his own form, netting a hat-trick and his ninth goal over the last four games whilst Phillip Campbell (2), Matthew Spence and Sam McMillan all also got on the scoresheet.

The win keeps the side in EYHL2 contention as they are now in fifth and just one point behind third-placed South Antrim – but having played one game more.

Elsewhere Portadown beat North Down 3-2 at Edenvilla despite seeing a man sent off.

It was the hosts who took an early as Jamie Wright fired his side into the lead just after the restart for the second quarter before strikes from Frazer McCain and Josh Gilmore turned the game on its head.

Having then seen a player red carded, the game looked set for a North Down victory with the Comber side in the ascendency.

However, it was Portadown who came from behind to seal all three points with Wright scoring his second of the afternoon and ninth of the season alongside a Luke Bell effort to secure a 3-2 win for the side.

Meanwhile, on Friday evening, Belfast Harlequins came from behind to secure a 5-3 win away to Kilkeel.

A hat-trick for forward Chris Wilson and goals from Ben Alford and Cameron Ruttle helped seal a fifth win in the sides last six games.
