LWM Prem: Portadown reclaim top spot

Portadown went top of the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League with two wins in three days against Ballymoney and Omagh.

The quickfire wins move the youthful side back to the summit of the division but only ahead of reigning champions Queen’s University by goals scored.

Three goals from Emma McEntee, Emily Adamson and Katie Herron helped seal a comfortable 3-0 victory over Omagh on Saturday afternoon before the side also beat Ballymoney 5-1 last night.

Ballymoney’s Koren Ferguson managed to score for the second game in a row but it wasn’t enough to stop the league leaders as Lara Wilson (2), Bethany Harper (2) and Annie Harper all sealed another routine win for the side who have now won 11 of their 13 fixtures this campaign.

Their title challengers also got a 5-1 win this weekend as they beat Mossley at The Dub.

The students stormed to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter with Zoe Wilson opening the scoring from a penalty corner before Jodie Simmons, Jenna McCarlie and Ellie Montgomery all got their names on the scoresheet.

Montgomery later added her second of the afternoon from the second phase of a penalty corner before a last-quarter strike from Lucy Campbellfor Mossley proved to only be a consolation for Mossley as it finished 5-1.

In the race for EYHL2, both Lurgan and Lisnagarvey secured 1-0 wins to stay within touching distance of the top 3 places.

Firstly a Lydia McNeil strike helped Lurgan to a second win in a row as they secured a narrow victory over Armagh before Lisnagarvey sealed a derby day victory against Banbridge courtesy of Beth McFerran’s fourth goal of the campaign.

However, it is Belfast Harlequins who remain in the driving seat for the final EYHL2 spot as they earned a comfortable win over Ballymoney on Saturday.

It took just two minutes for Quins to take the lead at Deramore Park as Claire Whiteside broke the deadlock before Megan Getty and Alyssa Jebb extended the home lead to 3-0.

A strike from Koren Ferguson on the brink of half-time kept Ballymoney within touching distance of their hosts before Jebb got her second of the afternoon and 11th of the season to wrap up a 4-1 win for her side.
