This Saturday Ulster Hockey will be hosting our Club Finals Day at PlayBall with six trophies set to be contested.
There will be two men’s finals and four women’s with games continuously running throughout the day on both the sand pitch and the water based.
Meanwhile this follows last weekend’s Finals Day which followed a similar format and not only featured some brilliant matches, but also high numbers of spectators.
The schedule for the day is as follows;
SAND PITCH:
The first game of the day will be one of the women’s fixtures as South Antrim 3s take on Queen’s University 5s in the Minor Cup at 11:30am.
Both teams play their league hockey in Junior 7 and occupy the top two spots in the table. Meanwhile in two previous meetings this season they have one win each and ten goals being scored between them, as this game is set to be a winner takes all.
The next game on the pitch will get underway at 1:30pm as both Queen’s University Ladies 4s and Belfast Harlequin’s Ladies 4s go head-to-head for the Junior Plate.
This tie is another which will feature two sides who sit side by side in the league as both occupy mid table spots in Junior 4. However, this time it is QUB who have the bragging rights as they picked up four points in the two league meetings, leaving Quinn’s looking to rectify the previous results.
The third and final game on the sand pitch will be the Men’s Minor Cup as Parkview take on Bangor 5s at 3:30pm.
This tie features two teams who currently play in Junior 5. Parkview booked their place in the final having beaten Lisnagarvey 6s 2-1 in the semi-final meanwhile their opposition got past Belfast Harlequins 3s at the same stage.
WATER BASED PITCH:
The action gets underway on the water based pitch at PlayBall from 12 noon as South Antrim Women’s 2s battle it out against Armagh Ladies 2s for the Junior Cup.
Both sides have had to win four matches to qualify for the final with South Antrim having got past Belfast Harlequins 4s, Larne 3s, Bangor 2s and Lisnagarvey 4s all whilst scoring plenty of goals in the process. Meanwhile, their opponents have so far beaten NICS 2s, Coleraine 3s and Instonian’s 2s before beating Limavady 2s 2-0 in the previous round.
At 2pm the winners of the McClements Cup will be decided as Raphoe Men’s 2s take on Lisnagarvey 4s.
Both sides have been playing their league hockey in Junior 2 this season, but find themselves at opposite ends of the table with the County Donegal side being relegated. Meanwhile they will also be looking to rectify a 3-2 defeat to the same opponents earlier in the season and finish the campaign on a high.
Belfast Harlequins Women’s 2s take on Pegasus 3s in the final game of the day as they two sides contest the Qualifying Plate at 4pm.
In two impressive semi-final performances each side recorded big wins to qualify for the final. Firstly Quins recorded a 7-2 victory over Lurgan 3s whereas Pegasus drew 2-2 with Ulster Elks 2s before winning 5-4 on penalty run-ins.
