Yesterday morning Ulster Hockey and Larne Ladies Hockey Club hosted a Primary School blitz at Larne High School.
Starting at 10 am, the competition ran until 2:30 pm and featured ten schools from both Larne and the greater area with kids from all backgrounds and a wide range of previous experience in the sport.
Ulster Hockey’s Good Relations Officer Eamonn McFerran also provided schools without a hockey background with the opportunity for training sessions in the weeks leading up to the event.
There was also good numbers of supporters in attendance with both parents and Larne High School pupils out to show their support during the course of the day
In the girls’ section, it was Moyle Primary School that emerged victorious as they scored an impressive 29 goals across just five fixtures.
With just two teams in the boys’ tournament, they met twice with St MacNissi’s Primary School coming out on top over Glynn Primary School in the first of their meetings. However, in their second meeting, it was a win for Glynn Primary but that wasn’t enough to overturn the previous result as St MacNissi’s won overall.
The third and final section of the day was the mixed tournament where despite their lack of hockey background, it was St MacNissi’s who once again were crowned champions and they did it without conceding a goal!
The schools A side won three and drew one of their four games whilst scoring 10 goals on the day to win the tournament. Meanwhile, their B team also impressed by winning three of their four fixtures.
Thank you to all the schools who took part in the event as well as Larne Ladies Hockey Club for arranging and running the competitions.
