There is an all-Ulster clash in the EYHL2 this weekend as Queen’s University travel to fellow Men’s Premier League side Bangor.
The students come into the game off the back of thrashing North Down 11-0 in the Kirk Cup last Saturday and an upturn of form in the league.
Top scorer Connor Irwin netted on four occasions against North Down and continued his fine league form, bringing his season tally to eleven in all competitions.
They face a Bangor side who had a difficult Kirk Cup campaign having suffered heavy defeats to both Annadale and Lisnagarvey.
South Antrim are also in EYHL 2 action today as they travel to face Cork Church of Ireland at Garryduff.
The Lisburn side almost pulled off a massive upset in their most recent outing when they were narrowly defeated by EYHL1 side Lisnagarvey.
That day three goals from Peter Milligan, Ben Clarke and Thomas McClintock weren’t enough as they lost 4-3.
However, they will be hoping to put in a performance of a similar level today and get their first three points of the group EYHL2 group stage.
In the Men’s Premier League Kilkeel host Portadown hoping to close the gap to leaders Cookstown to just three points.
This season they have been led by the division’s top goalscorer Luke Russell who has found the net on 17 occasions whilst teammate David Rea has also scored twelve.
They come into today’s game in fine form and having beat caused a massive cup upset last week when they beat EYHL side Instonians 4-0..
Opponents Portadown come into today’s fixture fourth in the table and could close the gap to Kilkeel to just three points with a victory.
The day’s final game sees Belfast Harlequins take on Raphoe with both sides in need of a victory.
Quins come into the game without a win in their last four league games meanwhile their opponents are winless this season and bottom of the table.
Despite their poor form, the Belfast side come into today’s game off the back of a positive result in cup action.
Last weekend they went away to Premier League leaders Cookstown and a strike from top goalscorer Michael Patterson helped earn the side a 1-1 draw in the Kirk Cup.
Raphoe find themselves 10 points from guaranteed safety and six from a relegation playoff with just five games remaining.
A first win of the season would see the side move just one win behind fellow strugglers Civil Service who don’t play this weekend.
