Queen’s University won their first game since being crowned champions of the Legacy Ulster Women’s Premier League, beating Ballymoney 4-1.
The result comes on the same day that the side received their title and makes it eight victories in a row for the students.
The champions took the lead with 15 minutes on the clock when Jodie Simmons got her seventh goal of the season.
Having won a short corner, she dribbled past the first runner before her reverse shot opened the scoring despite a touch from the goalkeeper.
Two quick goals either side of half time from Captain Alyssa Jebb and Jenna McCarlie extended the sides lead to 3-0 as they prepared for their title celebrations.
But opponents Ballymoney weren’t willing to go down without a fight as Katherine Boyd made it 3-1 at the end of the third quarter.
Ultimately it was Queen’s University who showed why they are champions of the division as Ellie Edwards rounded off the scoring in the closing stages to wrap up a comfortable 4-1 victory.
In the EYHL2 Ards thrashed the University of Galway 8-1, a result which sees them climb to second in the group.
Goals from Ellen Robinson, Ali Scott and Ailis Carson had the Ulster side 3-0 up within a dominant opening 20 minutes of the fixture.
Top scorer Frankie Brown then added her name to the scoresheet when she made it 4-0 just before the half-time break in Galway.
The rampant Ards side continued to go for goal with Francesca Brown making it 5-0 before Carson got her second strike of the fixture from a penalty corner eight minutes from the end of play.
The students managed to grab a goal back through Megan Clinton but two strikes in the last five minutes from Scott and Houston rounded off a nearly perfect performance from Ards.
The other tie in the group saw Lurgan lose 5-0 away to University College Cork.
After a tight opening 30 minutes it was the hosts who finally took the lead with Abi O’Mahony opening the scoring on the brink of half time.
Emma Sullivan’s strike five minutes into the second half saw the group leaders double their lead before Sarah Murphy took the result beyond doubt in the 49th minute.
Two late goals from Zarah Lowry saw UCC extend their lead to 5-0 as it would eventually finish as Lurgan left Cork with no reward for their travels.
Meanwhile, the result sees them slip from second in the group to third as they prepare to face Ulster rivals Ards in their next EYHL2 tie.
