Ulster squads set to face UK Lions

Four Ulster Hockey U16 squads are set to face a travelling UK Lions side at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club this weekend.

The fixtures continue our annual meetings with the UK Lions as 16 games are set to be played across three days and come just a week prior to the visit of the Hockey Mentors.

Meanwhile, the busy schedule for our youth sides will continue with the UK School Games coming up at the end of August before the 2024 Intepros get underway at the beginning of September.

Ahead of this weekend’s games, Ulster U16 Boys’ Coach Julian Costelloe said the sides are looking forward to their upcoming games at Lisnagarvey;

“We are excited to be welcoming the UK Lions to Ulster this weekend. They have a squad full of quality players and will provide a stern test for the boys. This is exactly what we need in preparation for our first Interpro match against Leinster in September.”

U16 Girls’ Coach Davy Menaul also added;

“Over previous years the Lions series has been vital in our athletes development as well as valuable preparation towards our Interpros. Over the course of the weekend, 32 female athletes will have the honour of representing Ulster in a home series. The girls are excited by the challenge ahead and are determined to perform well but most importantly enjoy themselves.”
