The Ulster U16 and U18 boys both secured Interpro victories against Munster this afternoon.
The wins in Dublin now mean that between all four Ulster squads, they have won all six Interprovincial fixtures this season.
Our U16s got off to a quick start and tested the Munster goalkeeper early as Riley Marney saw his deflected effort from close range saved by the goalkeeper after seven minutes.
Just three minutes later the deadlock was broken as the side won their first penalty corner of the game.
Josh Gill’s effort from the top of the circle picked out the bottom corner and opened the scoring for the young Ulster side.
Following the goal, the Ulster pressure continued with Gill at the centre of the attacking play. The forward saw a reverse strike at the near post saved by the goalkeeper before seeing a goal from a penalty corner disallowed just moments later.
As the game approached the latter stages, Munster began to show promise going forward as they went close from a handful of penalty corners before an effort from close range was blazed over the crossbar.
Instead, it was Ulster who got the games next goal as Riley Marney dispossessed his man before launching a counter attack which was eventually finished by Gill.
Meanwhile, just a minute later Charlie Taylor got his second goal of the Intepros campaign to round off a 3-0 victory for the U16s.
That game was then followed by a convincing 4-1 win for the U18s in Dublin.
Unlike their younger counterparts, the side got off to a slow start with Munster taking the lead in the 14th minute following a rebound at a penalty corner.
However, the side immediately bounced back from the early blow as Josh Osborne found Ethan Redford at the top of the circle and the Cookstown man fired into the bottom corner just moments later.
Then, from the restart Ulster were awarded a penalty corner with Ed Irwin’s drag flick giving Ulster a 2-1 lead going into the break for the end of the first quarter.
The pressure continued from the Ulster side and it didn’t take long for a third goal as Michael Girvin converted a brilliant solo effort.
Having beaten several players out left, he cut in from the wing and fired his effort past the goalkeeper at the near post and extended his sides lead.
Just moments later it was 4-1 as Matt Barrett found a yard of space in the circle before converting from close range to bring the game beyond doubt before half-time.
After an exciting first half, the game saw more yellow cards than chances in the final two quarters as Mark Evans’ team continued their winning start in the competition.
