Lisnagarvey were crowned Kirk Cup champions for a fourth consecutive season as they beat Cookstown 5-0 at Shaw’s Bridge.
The win makes the side the first team to achieve four in a row since the Hillsborough side won five consecutive titles between 1995 and 1999.
The first chance of the game fell to Oliver Kidd after just five minutes as he attempted a quick snapshot from the edge of the circle but saw his effort miss the target.
It proved to be a warning sign of what was to come as Andrew Williamson went close with a reverse effort shortly after before Matthew Nelson finally broke the deadlock.
With nine minutes gone the forward picked the ball up at the edge of the circle before beating two Cookstown defenders and picking out the far corner with a reverse strike.
The goal proved to be the only thing separating the two sides at the end of the first quarter, but it was Cookstown who started the second period on top.
Firstly, Mark Cuddy broke down the right wing before finding teammate Michael Kerr at the near post, but the forward narrowly missed the target before the Mid-Ulster side won the games first penalty corner.
From the set-play defender Jack Haycock saw his effort also narrowly miss the target as he struck on his reverse and could only find the side board.
Unable to make their pressure pay, the side were soon on the receiving end of the games second goal.
After 33 minutes Lisnagarvey finally won their first penalty corner of the game and Oliver Kidd perfectly executed his drag flick leaving Josh McCabe with no chance and sending his side into the half-time break 2-0 up.
In a quiet third quarter, it was Lisnagarvey who once again dominated the play but with Cookstown putting in a resolute defensive performance.
It took until the final moments of the period for goalkeeper Josh McCabe to be tested with two late Oliver Kidd drag flicks being played straight at the shot-stopper.
As the sides entered the final quarter it was Lisnagarvey who continued to threaten on goal and it didn’t take long for the side to add a fourth.
Having won another penalty corner, Kidd saw his effort saved once more before Matthew Aughey was on hand to tap on the rebound from close range.
Just a minute later Aughey could have had his second as he broke into the circle before his upright reverse was saved by McCabe.
However the Garvey fourth did eventually come as Andrew Williamson fired his reverse effort into the far top corner, clipping the woodwork on its way in.
The forward nearly added a fifth just two minutes later as Kidd flashed the ball across goal but the sliding Williamson couldn’t get a touch.
However with just a minute remaining the reigning champions got their fifth as it was Williamson who played the ball across the face of goal before Ryan Getty tapped into an empty goal.
The final effort of the game, Getty’s strike rounded off a resounding 5-0 win for the champions.
