The 2025 John Waring All-Ireland Championships get underway tomorrow morning at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club and is set to feature six of the best U14 school sides from across Ireland.
The competition is named after the late John Waring a well known player and umpire within Ulster who was a member at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club.
Following his passing, the competition was launched in his memory in 2009, originally as a first XI competition for the cup winners and runners-up from Ulster, Leinster and Munster.
However, it has since been changed to an U14s competition following the format of 20 minute matches with no half-time and all teams playing each other once throughout the competition.
The winner of the trophy will be the school with the most points at the end of the day.
Representing Ulster is Cookstown High School who were recently crowned Ferris Cup champions and are also the reigning champions of the John Waring having finished last years competition unbeaten.
Joining Cookstown High School as Ulster representatives are Banbridge Academy who are the 2025 Ferris Cup runners-up.
This year they are set to face stiff opposition with Ashton School, Bandon Grammar School, Kings Hospital and Wesley College all travelling to partake in the competition.
Tomorrow’s action is set to get underway from 10am with both Ulster schools playing in the opening games.
