LWM PREM: Weekend Preview

Banbridge host Lurgan at Havelock Park as this weekend’s Legacy Wealth Management Premier League action gets underway this evening.

The home side are hoping for a return to form, coming off the back of back-to-back defeats against Lisnagarvey and Ards.

As a result, the side have slipped to fifth in the division and are five points behind tonight’s opponents.

In contrast, Andy Brown’s Lurgan are unbeaten since the opening day of the season, most recently beating Larne 3-0.

They also have the division’s in-form player with Lydia McNeill netting in four of her sides last five games.

On Saturday, Belfast Harlequins could go top for at least a couple of hours when they host Larne at Deramore Park.

The home side come into the weekend on a run of five straight wins and sit second in the division only behind leaders Ards on goal difference.

Last weekend goals from Katie Larmour (2), Clarie Whiteside (2) and Sylvia Rose helped the side to an impressive 5-1 win over Mossley.

With leaders Ards not in action until later in the afternoon, a win over Larne could see the Belfast side move to the summit of the table.

At Ardmore Recreational Centre, Ballymoney, are looking to build on their first win of the season when they take on Armagh.

Last weekend win’s over Omagh saw goals from Anna Wright (2) and Katie Burns and saw Ballymoney end a run of 15 games without a win in the division.

They now take on an Armagh side who are looking to end their own winless run, as the side haven’t picked up all three points since beating Larne on matchday two.

Elsewhere, Lisnagarvey host Ards in a massive game in the title race as first meets third.

The sides are separated by just one point in the division, with Ards yet to lose a game this season.

The table-toppers boast both the best attack and defence in the league this season, with goalkeeper Naomi McKnight conceding just two goals.

However, they now face the division’s joint top scorer with Beth Ravey (alongside Stef Ardis of Banbridge), having scored eight goals this campaign, outscoring three teams.

The final game of the weekend sees Omagh looking for a first win of the season when they host Mossley.

Bottom of the league, they are the only side yet to win a game this season and are four points adrift from guaranteed safety.

They now take on a Mossley side who themselves are looking to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing loss to Belfast Harlequins.

A return to form for Davy Menaul’s side could see them finish the weekend back in the top half of the table.
