LWM PREM: Ards move to within four points of the title

Ards are now just four points away from being crowned Legacy Wealth Management Premier League champions after they beat Ballymoney 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The league leaders were also boosted by second-place Lisnagarvey being held to a 1-1 draw with Larne.

With 15 minutes played, Lucy Andrews opened the scoring with her first goal of the season and it remained 1-0 until deep into the second half when Ballymoney struck level.

With just five minutes remaining in the third quarter, Katie Burns struck level for the visitors and set them on course for a shock draw.

However, three late goals from Zara Malseed, Susie Cotter and Ali Carson saw the league leaders storm to a comfortable victory in the final ten minutes.

Meanwhile, Lisnagarvey lost further ground on the league leaders after they were held at Larne.

Goals from Amy Campbell and Scarlett Swann saw the sides have to share the spoils as the hosts earned a second impressive draw in a row, having also held Mossley last week.

Following their dropped points, the Hillsborough side are now 11 points behind Ards at the top of the table with just four games left to play.

At Havelock Park, Mossley came from behind to beat Banbridge 4-1 to continue their chase for EYHL2 hockey next season.

The hosts took an early lead in the tie when Stef Ardis picked out Nancy McCusker, who calmly converted for her second goal of the season.

However, Kate Spillane levelled for the visitors, continuing her fine run of form and scoring for the fifth time in six games.

Meanwhile, two quickfire penalty corners from Tara Malcolm and Alex Snoddy in the third quarter saw the side take a comfortable lead in the tie before a Bonnie-Connor Boyd strike rounded off a big win for the side.

Following their win, Davy Menaul’s side move level on points with fourth-place Lurgan and remain four points outside the EYHL2 places, with two games in hand.

Elsewhere, Belfast Harlequins returned to winning ways as they beat Omagh 1-0, ending a run of three without victory.

A Rebecca Lee strike proved to be the difference between the two sides as Belfast Harlequins secured the narrow victory on the road.

The win keeps Quins in the top three whilst they also close the gap to Lisnagarvey to just three points.

Meanwhile, Omagh remain bottom of the division, having suffered their eleventh defeat in twelve league games.
