Pegasus were crowned back-to-back Veterans Cup champions as they beat Omagh 1-0 at Royal School Dungannon on Thursday evening.
An early goal from Hannah Craig proved to be the difference between the sides as the Belfast outfit ran out narrow winners.
With just two minutes on the clock, it was the reigning champions Pegasus who took the lead when they were awarded an early penalty corner which proved decisive.
From the set-play, a straight strike from Hannah Craig at the top of the circle found the bottom corner as the Belfast side took an early lead.
As the first quarter progressed, it was Pegs who continued to see most of the ball as Rachel Murdock went close to doubling their lead after 13 minutes, turning her marker at the near post before forcing the Omagh goalkeeper into a strong save.
However, Omagh weren’t without their chances twice going close to finding an equaliser in the opening quarter but they were unable to convert.
In the second period, it proved to be an even contest with both sides evenly matched as chances were limited.
With neither side able to find a second goal in the tie, a relatively quiet period stayed goalless as Pegasus went into the half-time break a goal ahead.
As the third quarter got underway Pegasus went close to doubling their advantage once more as a great ball played Alex Spears through on goal before she laid it off for teammate Suzanne Ferris.
Unfortunately for her side, the Omagh goalkeeper came out on top once more making another strong save.
In the final quarter, Omagh had their best chance of the game to equalise when a ball into the circle found Emma Letharth at the back post as she sent her deflected effort goalward, only to be denied by the goalkeeper.
Despite their late flurry of pressure, the side were unable to find an equalising goal as their opponents ran out narrow 1-0 winners to retain their title.
