Earlier this week Ann Rosa of Club KV was presented with the Winifred Templeton Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to women’s hockey in Ulster.

She was presented the trophy by Terry Templeton (son of Winifred), former Ulster Hockey President Margaret McCormack and current President Mervyn Logan.

Fittingly, the presentation took place at Victoria College, Belfast where Ann is a past pupil and was taught by Winifred Templeton.

Following the award presentation, the 75-year-old said;

“When I read the names of the previous winners of the Winifred Templeton Award, which was first presented in 1987, I feel very privileged to be receiving it.  It was fitting that the presentation was made on the hockey pitch at Victoria College.

This was where I learnt how to play hockey and enjoyed many years playing for the School and for Victorians Ladies Hockey Club.

My coach was Mrs Templeton, who was also Club President for many years and  Irish Hockey President.

I would like to thank her son, Terry, last year’s Ulster President Margaret McCormack and Ulster President Mervyn Logan for making the presentation a very special occasion.”

During her time in the sport, Ann has held a wide range of positions at club, provincial and national level and is the current Co-President of Club KV a role which has followed on from her time as President at Victorians Ladies Hockey Club before their 2019 amalgamation.

In 2013-2014 Ann was Ulster Hockey Vice President before becoming President for the following season and later sitting on the Ulster Hockey Board between 2015 and 2022 where she represented School Hockey alongside being the Chair of the Joint Schools Committee in 2022.

On a national level, Ann also held the role of Vice President of Hockey Ireland from 2018 to 2020 before later becoming president between 2020 and 2022.

Upon presenting the award to Ann, Terry Templeton said:

“I was extremely honoured to present my late mum’s trophy to Ann Rosa at Victoria College on Monday.

This event was made more memorable as Ann is not only a very worthy recipient but was also taught by my mum at Victoria many years ago.
Ann has done years of tireless work with Ulster Schools and as Irish President and it was great to see her accompanied by her daughter Naca, also an old Victorian.
Thanks also to two of our Presidents Margeret McCormack and Mervyn Logan for their attendance at this presentation.”
