The Sport Northern Ireland SportMaker Awards are making a welcome return for 2020.

#SportMaker awards process shines a light on the local sporting workforce, recognising the outstanding contribution of coaches, officials, volunteers and projects and the role they play in encouraging people to benefit from the power of sport.

Club coaches, officials and the wider volunteering family have continued to play an instrumental role in supporting and keeping our communities and athletes active over the past twelve months, and more recently, as the world adjusts to the new ways of working, exercising and developing others during the coronavirus pandemic.

Antoinette McKeown, Chief Executive of Sport Northern Ireland, said “we at Sport Northern Ireland are back for another year to give our sporting community the opportunity to showcase their achievements and say a special ‘thank-you’ to local coaches, officials, volunteers and projects as we now open the 2020 SportMaker Awards for nominations.”

“The SportMaker Awards will once again acknowledge the work of Northern Ireland’s sporting workforce and highlight the outstanding achievements of the people and projects that have made an enormous impact over the past year, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SportMakers all around the country have been working tirelessly through various online platforms helping people stay active and connected in their homes during the lockdown period which is one of the reasons we have decided to go ahead with our plans and recognise these inspirational people in our local communities.”

“The talent, commitment and passion of our sporting workforce here in Northern Ireland is outstanding and all too often it goes unnoticed. That’s why Sport NI is delighted to be launching this year’s SportMaker Awards, providing a platform to recognise and celebrate those who make sport happen every day, at community, club and elite level”.

SportMakers can be nominated in six award categories for coaches, two award categories for officials, two award categories for volunteers and one category for SportMaker Project, recognising achievement at all levels of sport.
