The first Hockey Ireland Webinar will take place on Monday 27th April at 7.30pm.
The first presenter is Irish senior women’s assistant coach Mick McKinnon. Mick’s presentation on ‘Simplifying Defending’ will explore the fundamentals of defending and how we should strive as coaches to make this aspect of hockey as uncomplicated as possible for players.

Mick is one of Ireland’s most successful coaches having led Armagh HC through a significant transformation before a hugely successful tenure with Railway Union’s women’s 1st XI. He also worked with both UCD women and Pembroke men. He is currently Director of Hockey in King’s Hospital School. In the course of a regular week Mick works with players from beginner to international level. Part of the presentation will be on how these straightforward defensive principles apply across all levels.
At international level, Mick has worked across several squads, having led the Irish U18 girls and assisted at U21, U23 and senior level. Through his work at both club and international level, Mick has overseen the development of several of our current and former international players. He continues to be a key part of the senior women’s coaching staff as they prepare for Tokyo 2021.
As a coach developer, Mick is our lead developer on the Level 2 course and acts as an advisor to the national coach education committee.
