INVITATION TO TENDER – REVIEW OF COMPETITIVE HOCKEY IN ULSTER

Share this article

These are exciting times for hockey in Ulster.  We’ve been celebrating 125 years of hockey in Ulster.

From a business perspective our income is growing and diversifying, with an increasing number of commercial sponsors. The number of participants in the sport is growing , particularly in the women’s and girls game.  We have a vibrant and established system of clubs across the Province.  We have a successful and inspiring Talent Development Programme which is delivering success, and the number of players from Ulster being selected to represent Ireland is growing.  At the Tokyo Olympics there were 5 Ulster players in the Irish Ladies Squad including Irish Captain Katie Mullen and Ireland’s highest capped sports women of all time Shirley McCay; and 2 men selected to represent Team GB & NI.

We have recently launched a new and ambitious 5 year strategy which is focused on growing and diversifying the sport at all levels.  Member feedback through both the strategic consultation process and anecdotally, and a statistical review of the competitive leagues has indicated that we need to consider ways of improving our competitive hockey structures.

Ulster Hockey Strategic Plan

Having listened to our members needs and considering player welfare for our members at all levels, we are delighted to invite tenders from suitably experienced and qualified organisations or individuals to engage with our members and stakeholders and conduct an independent review of the competitive structures in Ulster.  The 3 key aspects of this review will be to consider:

  • the league and cup structures;
  • the management and administration of competitive hockey;
  • the alignment of schools, club and pathways/performance hockey
