Cookstown High School, Friends School Lisburn, Royal School Dungannon and Royal School Armagh all emerged victorious at yesterday’s Junior Superleague and The Wooden Floor Company Senior Superleague finals day.

The event was hosted at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club with four games running throughout the day and a brilliant turnout of supporters from all the schools involved.

The first fixture of the day saw Cookstown High School overcome Clounagh Junior High School with a goal from Ellie Costelloe to win the Junior Superleague Tier B.

A tight game saw the Portadown-based school have most of the possession and chances, however, it was their Mid-Ulster opposition who emerged victorious with the goal coming in the dying stages.

In Tier A Friends’ School Lisburn also sealed a narrow victory as they beat Royal School Armagh 1-0.

A goal from Captain Erin McCourt in the 16th minute secured the win for her side, but it wasn’t without a challenge from their Armagh opposition who had plenty of chances of their own throughout the game.

However, despite the pressure, Friends’ held out for a clean sheet to take the cup back to Lisburn.

The third game of the day got underway at 5pm and saw Regent House take on Royal School Dungannon in Tier B of the Wooden Floor Company Senior Superleague.

Dungannon took the lead in the sixth minute through Evie Girvan before Erin Mathieson doubled the lead from a penalty corner 15 minutes later.

Four more goals from Hannah Herron, Zoe Gibson, Clara Finlay and a second of the day from Girvan rounded off a 6-0 win despite a strong final quarter from Regent House.

The final game of the day saw a tightly contested fixture between Portadown College and Royal School Armagh in Tier A of The Wooden Floor Company Senior Superleague.

Annie Cunningham opened the scoring with 11 minutes played for RSA from open play before she doubled her sides advantage just seven minutes later.

However, the two goal lead would only last for five minutes as Portadown got a goal of their own when a crash ball into the circle found Emily Adamson who scored from close range.

Just moments later RSA restored their two-goal lead buffer when Hannah Redmond was on hand to score from the restart and from there Portadown were unable to find a way back into the game.

With the final score 3-1 to Royal School Armagh, they were crowned champions of The Wooden Floor Company Senior Superleague for the second year in a row!
