KENTON HILMAN AND TIM COCKRAM JOIN ULSTER HOCKEY BOARD

Ulster Hockey is delighted to welcome 2 new appointments to the Ulster Hockey Board – Kenton Hilman and Tim Cockram.

Following a robust recruitment process supported by the NI Sports Forum Board Recruitment programme, the 2 new appointees bring a range of skills and knowledge from both a commercial and sports development perspective. The appointees will add an array of expertise to Ulster Hockey and contribute to the delivery of its strategic objectives and implement its new strategy.  The recruitment supports the restructure of the Ulster Hockey Board and Committee structure.

The two new Director’s roles are:

Kenton Hilman, Director of Finance & Governance

Tim Cockram, Director of Coaching & Pathways

They join us at an exciting and important time as we launch a new strategy and begin to transform the way in which we work. Both Kenton and Tim bring a wealth of experience from careers in Finance and Law and are both passionate about sports development.  I am confident they will both make a great contribution to Ulster Hockey going forward and I look forward to working with them.

The new appointees are due to formally take up their Board positions at the next Management Board meeting on 19th October 2021.

About the appointees:

Kenton Hilman

Kenton grew up in Saintfield, Co Down, has over ten years’ experience in Corporate Banking and currently heads up the Corporate & Institutional Banking team at Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland. The team manages the banking relationships of some of the largest companies in Northern Ireland. He has been involved in some of Northern Ireland’s highest profile transactions and has helped many local companies expand overseas either through organic growth or acquisition.

Kenton has also headed up the Belfast Business Centre which focuses on SMEs in Northern Ireland and is a FCA having trained with KPMG in Belfast, Dublin and Sydney.

Kenton attended Royal Belfast Academical Institution (RBAI) and Queens University Belfast, and he and his wife Emma now live in south Belfast with their son, who’s following in his father’s footsteps and attending RBAI, and daughter, a keen hockey player.

Ulster Schools and Irish Schools rugby was a big part of Kenton’s schooldays, and he gained a few caps for Ulster until injury curtailed his playing.

Tim Cockram

Tim is a Senior Associate Solicitor in Carson McDowell’s Professional Indemnity team. In his role he acts on behalf of the Professional Indemnity Insurers of solicitors, accountants, architects, and other professionals in respect of claims brought for professional negligence.  Additionally, part of his work is with respect to providing advice on policy coverage issues, to include indemnity, exclusion clauses, fraud etc. He is also presents various CPD courses to the solicitor profession.

 

Tim brings a broad knowledge with recognised expertise in dispute resolution, having also experience advising on various media law issues, to include defamation, privacy, reporting restrictions, intellectual property and social media.

 

Tim is well known in hockey circles having achieved 192 Test Appearances for Ireland Senior Men’s International Hockey team between 2004 to 2016, including attending the 2016 Rio Olympics.

 

Tim has played for both Lisnagarvey Hockey Club, Mens 1st team from 2000 to 2018 and Loughborough Students Hockey Club 1st team 2006/2007.

 

Having retired from playing, Tim now concentrates on coaching, and is currently Assistant Coach Wallace High School First Team, along with the Youth Hockey at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club.   Tim also enjoys spending time with his family, especially his twin boys who are budding sportsmen.
