Our U18 sides had mixed results on day three of the UK School Games with two wins and two losses.
Both Ulster Red sides sealed their spots in their respective finals with big wins over Wales, whilst the Whites will both compete in 3rd/4th playoffs.
In the first game of the day Maddie Leathem gave Ulster the lead in the 26th minute of the tie before two more goals from Grace McCool and Joni Cunningham extended the sides lead to 3-0 in the third quarter.
Unfortunately for the side, they were pegged back late on, with England’s third goal coming with just 90 seconds left on the clock.
With the sides inseparable, they went to penalty run-ins with the English side running out 3-0 winners.
Meanwhile, the Ulster Reds put in a dominant performance to thrash Wales 10-0 in their second and final group fixture.
Scarlett Taylor broke the deadlock with just two minutes on the clock before a quickfire double from Evie Girvan and Isla Allen extended the lead before the end of the quarter.
By half-time it was 4-0 with Emma McEntee adding her name to the scoresheet before Evie Girvan made it 5-0 before the end of the third quarter.
A brilliant final period saw the Ulster side double their advantage with five goals from Katie Herron, McEntee, Emily Adamson, Rebekah Lennon and Erin Pim.
Elsewhere, the Ulster White boys side were unfortunate to lose 3-2 in their tie against England Blue.
Having gone into half-time a goal behind, JJ Holley converted from close range to draw his side level in the 35th minute.
However, they wouldn’t remain level for long as England earned a two-goal lead midway through the third quarter.
Tom Archbold’s solo effort in the dying stages reduced the deficit to just one, but it wasn’t to be enough as it finished 3-2 to England.
The days final game saw Ulster run out 13-0 winners after a brilliant performance saw both Adam McKee and John Cunningham score a combined seven goals.
It was McKee who struck first with his goal in the 12th minute before Cunningham doubled the lead ten minutes later.
The pair both struck in the latter stages of the second quarter to bring the half-time scoreline to 4-0.
But the goals continued to come as a Matthew McAreavey, McKee and Ed Irwin all struck in the third period of the tie.
Finally, fourth quarter goals from Cunningham (2), Rory Johnson, Seb Holley, Adam Duffield and Josh Osborne rounded off the 13-o rout and a successful day for Ulster.
