Portadown host Belfast Harlequins at Edenvilla as the race for EYHL2 continues in the Men’s Premier League.
The game is set to be the second time the two side meet in a number of weeks with Harlequins having come out on top in the previous meeting at Deramore Park.
Just two weeks ago goals from Cameron Ruttle, Aaron Murphy and James Hutchinson helped seal a 3-1 win for the Belfast club and a similar result this weekend could see them break into the top three spots in the division.
They also come into this weekend’s game on a fine run of form, winning five of their last seven league outings.
Whilst it still remains mathematically possible for Portadown to finish as high as third, the odds are stacked against them, however, a win today could see them move to within just two points of Harlequins in the division.
Unlike their opponents, they come into the tie off the back of a poor run of form with last weekend’s victory over North Down ending a run of three straight defeats thanks to goals from Jamie Wright (2) and Luke Bell.
Elsewhere, North Down host South Antrim at the Comber Leisure Centre with the hosts looking to end a run of six games without a win.
With just two wins this season the the side are set two finish in the bottom two places this campaign and will likely face a relegation / promotion playoff.
Having picked up just one point in their last six games (a 4-4 draw with Kilkeel) they now face tough opposition if they are to turn around their fortunes.
South Antrim are currently third in the divison by goal difference and have won their last two games against Portadown and PSNI whilst goals from Tim Curragh, Jordan Robinson, Ryan West and Max Turner helped them defeat this afternoon’s opponents 4-1 in the reverse fixture.
In the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League, Portadown continue their push for the league title as they take on bottom of the division Banbridge at Portadown.
The Edenvilla club are currently six points off top spot Queen’s University with this weekend’s game their game in hand.
The hosts come into the game off the back of their first league defeat of the campaign, losing 2-1 to their title rivals despite an Evie Thompson strike.
Looking to bounce back they face a Banbridge team who are yet to win a league game this season whilst Lara Wilson will be looking to continue her own personal form, netting three goals in her last three appearances.
