Weekend Preview

In the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League, Queen’s University are looking to capitalise on Portadown being out of league action and take top spot.

The reigning champions are only behind the league leaders on goals scored and take on bottom of the table Banbridge.

Simon Bell’s side are unbeaten in the league this campaign and are potentially just four games away from defending their title.

They come into the weekend off the back of a fifth a consecutive league win, beating EYHL2 chasing Belfast Harlequins 1-0 with Ellie Montgomery sealing the win in the final quarter.

Their latest test is against Banbridge who are without a league win this campaign and lost the reverse fixture 7-0 on the opening day of the season.

In the Men’s Premier League Belfast Harlequins will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Queen’s University as they take on fellow EYHL2 chasing Portadown.

Prior to last weekend’s defeat, the Deramore Park side had been in fine form, winning three in a row with forward Matthew Gray netting eight goals in that time.

However, with that run coming to an end, the side have slipped to fifth in the division and three points off an EYHL2 spot.

This weekend’s opponents Portadown are also looking to for a top three finish and are just two points behind Harlequins but have lost three of their last five outings.

Elsewhere, Queen’s University continue their push for EYHL2 hockey as they host Bangor.

Both sides come into the game off the back of victories with the student’s impressively beating Belfast Harelquins 3-0 last week.

Meanwhile Bangor followed up their Anderson Cup victory with a 3-1 win against PSNI with goals from Ryan Burgess, Harry Dow and Simon Cox.

A win for Queen’s could see them finish as the weekend in third place, whilst Bangor could climb into the top half for the first time this season.

The final game of the day sees South Antrim take on bottom of the division P.S.N.I.
