The Pearson Cup Final Day, held yesterday at Stormont Hockey Pitches, was a roaring success with 18 teams in attendance. The Pearson Cup Final Day is the culmination of blitz’s held from February onwards across the country, and this year’s event was a particular triumph for the regional blitz’s, with the Foyle Blitz tripling in numbers.
Despite the wet and rainy weather, all the boys had a great time, with Gorran Primary School taking on Antrim Primary School in the final for the Pearson Plate. The match was fiercely contested, staying goalless and resulting in the two teams graciously deciding to share the Pearson Plate instead of going to a penalty shootout.
The Pearson Cup Final saw Inchmarlo Prep School take on Pond Park Primary School, and once again, the match was goalless. However, as it was the Cup Final, it went to a penalty shootout that saw Pond Park Primary School win the Pearson Cup in sudden death, scoring the decisive goal to claim the coveted trophy.
The Pearson Cup Final Day is a highlight of the Northern Ireland sports calendar, and this year’s event was no exception. The organisers would like to thank BDO Northern Ireland for their generous sponsorship of the event and their commitment to supporting grassroots sports in Northern Ireland.
Congratulations to all the teams involved in this year’s Pearson Cup Final Day, and we look forward to next year’s event with great anticipation.
