Ulster Under 18
Who is involved?
The Under 18 panel is selected based on those
- Those coming out of the final under 16 squad
- Those who have played under 18 Ulster the previous year
- Those at the fore of the U17 programme in the Autumn previous
There are usually around 28 boys and girls selected as part of the larger training panel. This is reduced over time.
When and where does the group train?
The panels usually begin training around mid February and train twice a week. The panel is reduced around the end of March.
A squad travels to Lilleshall to play a 3 match series v an England U16 group in May. In June a squad plays either v Wales or Scotland.
In July the panel takes a break and training resumes again in August time. The programme culminates in Hockey Ireland’s annual Interprovincial tournament which takes place around the end of September every year.
Squad selections are made by the Head Coach of each group and the same squad will not play in every series. All selections and information is provided via email to parents.
