Our U18s drew their final fixture of the weekend against Wessex Spartans at Ulster University.

Goals from Ethan Clotworthy and Ben Law were not enough to seal an Ulster victory in their final fixture before next weeks Interpros.

Today’s fixture got underway at 10am and the first chance fell the way of Tom Archbold. The forward was picked out in the circle by teammate John Cunningham before sending his effort just wide of the post with just three minutes on the clock.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 11th minute when a crashed ball into the circle was deflected goal-bound by a Wessex forward as it managed to creep in at the near post.

Whilst the first quarter finished with the hosts a goal ahead, the youthful Ulster side was level just moments into the second period when a goal line scramble saw the ball land perfectly for Ethan Clotworthy who tapped in at the back post.

Just a minute later they were ahead as Ben Law’s drag flick from a short corner found the bottom right corner of the goal. However, the lead wouldn’t last as Wessex found their equaliser straight from the restart.

That meant the sides went into the halftime break with the scores level at 2-2.

Right at the beginning of the second half, there was another chance for Ulster to take the lead when JJ Holley found himself free in the penalty area but he was unable to pick out teammate John Cunningham at the back post.

Ten minutes later Spartans had a chance of their own when a visiting forward saw his defection from the near post go narrowly wide at the opposite side of the goal.

A quiet final corner saw both sides have a handful of short corners a piece but neither could find a winning goal as the match finished as a 2-2 stalemate.

Next up for the Ulster sides is a trip down south as they play the opening games of the Interpros next Sunday.
