Last weekend Ulster Hockey sent two U13 Boys squads to Beeston Hockey Club in Nottingham to take part in a series of fixtures against various UK Talent Academies.
In all, both sides performed to a very high standard with the Championship side reaching their Semi-Final, whilst the Trophy side came second in their section.
On day one the sides got off to a great start with goals from Harry Stevenson (2) and Rowan Brown sealing victory in the Trophy sides opening game.
Meanwhile, Charles Hollway found the net three times alongside two goals from Daniel Currie as the Championship side earned a win and a draw from their opening two fixtures.
On day two the Trophy team won their semi-final against Tensworth 1-0 with a lovely goal from Charlie Hopkins. In the final, they gave it their all but were defeated 5-1 in their only defeat of the weekend from six games.
Whereas the Championship team made it to the semi-finals unbeaten in the pool stages but ultimately lost 4-2 to the Panthers. Carter Lunn and Tom McMullan both scored but sadly it wasn’t enough to progress to the finals.
Following that result the side lost their 3/4 playoff 2-1, with Jamie Lunn the scorer. A disappointing finish but the boys were fantastic throughout.
Thank you BlueZinc for their sponsorship support, to all the boys for their effort, to the coaches and managers for their hard work, and to the parents for their support.
Next month the U13 Girls will also be heading to Beeston to take part in the same event with two squads set to travel once more.
